Holy Angels is an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to providing love, support, and empowerment for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We create opportunities through jobs, skills training, education, community integration, and social integration that afford the highest level of independence possible for those we serve. Opened in 1965, Holy Angels is one of the nation's premier independent licensed residential training facilities, offering cradle-to-grave services for approximately 185 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
In 2012, Holy Angels expanded its mission to include a program that benefits not only its residents but also individuals with disabilities from the Northwest Louisiana community who are seeking opportunities for meaningful work. The award-winning AngelWorks Day Program provides participants with work readiness training, job coaching, and job placement through its five enterprises: Business Services, Culinary Arts, Creative Arts, Horticulture, and Holy Rhino Coffee, a partnership with the Shreveport-based company, Rhino Coffee.
Holy Angels provides clients a path to self-fulfillment through education, empowerment, independence, and work. Some of the special amenities offered at Holy Angels include the Aquatic Center, "GREAT" equine therapy, exercise physiology, Holy Angels Choir, performing arts such as talent shows and Christmas and Easter pageants, Chapel services, and special community outings to the symphony, opera, and local theater.
Holy Angels' AngelCare services include occupational therapy, pet therapy, speech therapy, and applied behavioral analysis. Relaxation and sensory stimulation are offered in a state-of-the-art sensory "SNOEZELEN" room. In 2022, the Community School was opened, extending our non-residential mission to children ages 2 – 21 with developmental delays or learning disabilities. Each student receives instruction and therapy adapted to their abilities and individual goals.
On September 1, 2022 the Community School opened its doors on the beautiful campus of Holy Angels under the direction of Kelly Rouse, BCBA. The Community School extends Holy Angel's non-residential mission by serving individuals with developmental delays or learning disabilities by providing therapeutic and educational opportunities. Students will receive instruction and therapy from specially trained educators, Applied Behavioral Analysts, and line techs.
The Sisters of Our Lady of Sorrows always taught by example, advocated for classroom learning, and promoted job training. Today, we emulate the Sisters’ training and teaching methods through the Community School. Their passion, like ours, was to provide opportunities for those we serve to reach their maximum level of achievement. We seek to honor the legacy of the Sisters of Our Lady of Sorrows by continuing their work of impacting the lives of those we serve through innovative programming and improvements made to our campus.
For more than 50 years the legacy of Bishop Greco and the Sisters of Our Lady of Sorrows has been sustained through prayer, hard work, love, and visionary leadership. Holy Angels strives to be a sign of hope, love, entrepreneurial innovation, and empowerment to thousands of the nation's most vulnerable individuals and their families, each with a compelling need. The story continues to be written.
To provide individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities a path to self-fulfillment through education, empowerment, spirituality, independence, and work.
