The Alumni Association provides funds for scholarships, helps promote enrollment, supports the continuation and expansion of programs at LSUS, and encourages community involvement through financial contributions and cooperative events or community and civic organizations.

The Association's activities and traditions help increase community awareness of the university's programs, special events, and specific needs. This awareness helps maintain and enhance LSU Shreveport's current reputation as the only comprehensive metropolitan university in the Shreveport-Bossier area. Our most important service will always be to our alumni - recent or past, on-campus or online. Each one is unique and has achieved worthy goals. The Alumni Association also funds various university programs through membership dues, business partnership programs, bench purchases in the Dr. Lacy and Edie Williams Circle of Excellence, and fundraising events like the annual Alumni Capital One Pilots Golf Classic.

The Alumni Association Endowed Undergraduate Scholarship is fully funded. The interest earned on the principal provides four $1,000 scholarships annually to deserving juniors or seniors in each of the colleges or disciplines. The Alumni Association also raises funds for annual scholarships for members of LSUS sports teams and the LSUS Debate Team. These scholarships are funded through the Pilots Golf Classic and our silent auctions. The Association works with the LSUS Foundation on various projects. Our support for LSUS takes many forms - building scholarship funds, maintaining and updating the alumni database, underwriting events and programs, providing specialized staff training, and hosting events like Graduate Receptions at Commencement.

Testimonials

David A. Okuampa graduated in Molecular and Cellular Biology in May of 2017 and said, "I'm honored to be a recipient of the LSUS Alumni Scholarship. Receiving this scholarship has motivated me to work harder and harder all the time in pursuit of my educational and career goals. Also, this is an exemplary means for me to give back to the community when I also become an Alumni. This scholarship has relieved me of so many educational hurdles. A big THANKS to all LSUS ALUMNI for such generous support. I truly appreciate it. GOD BLESS YOU ALL. I'm planning on going to medical school!"

Kelsey Ellender graduated Cum Laude in May of 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a concentration in molecular and cellular biology. Also a part of the Women's Soccer, Tennis & Cross Country teams, she said, "The Alumni Association Athletic Scholarship relieved some of the financial burdens that accompanied moving away from home for college. This money allowed me to ultimately play sports without the stress of working full-time and taking out loans. Being chosen for this scholarship showed me the value of work ethic and helped me form expectations for myself in light of future LSUS athletes. LSUS more than prepared me for the academic world, but being part of LSUS athletics shaped me into a better future professional. "

Trang D. Hoang said, "I received the Alumni Association Scholarship in the fall of 2015. I was in my pre-student teaching semester, so it couldn't have come at a better time. I needed to cut my work hours in order to place my focus on student teaching, and I was worried about what that could mean for me financially. The scholarship provided me with some assurance that I was going to be okay during this time period, and I could not be more grateful!"
